Tucked away in Westlake Village is a unique shop called Vom Fass. The name means “from the cask” in German and that’s what this German-based company, which has more than 250 locations in Germany and elsewhere, sells — exotic oils and vinegars directly from the cask. If you’re looking for pumpkin seed oil from a pumpkin soup or walnut oil for a salad, you can find that and much more at this Valley shop.

And at this season, it’s a good bet for stocking stuffers or hostess gifts. Plan to spend a little while tasting and sniffing. It's the only way to ensure that an oil, especially, is fresh.
They’ve got imported olive oils and also, infused olive oils in flavors such as rosemary, tangerine, porcini and organic chili oil. Any cook would appreciate a bottle of fresh nut oil—not just the typical walnut or hazelnut, maybe pistachio, or exotic argan from Morocco.

I’m most interested in the vinegars made from fruit such as calamansi, mango, fig-chili, pear and pomegranate. (Are you beginning to see why you might need some time?)
Or just pick up a sampler set ($30.99 to $64.99) and run.
Once you’ve chosen your oil or vinegar, then it’s time to choose a decorative bottle in sizes from 50 ml (stocking stuffer, definitely) up to the equivalent of a bottle of wine, 750 ml. You can also pick up wines and spirits here, too, for one-stop shopping. Bring in bottles to be refilled, or bring a special bottle of your own.
