One of the first plants domesticated by mankind, the olive has been raised for its fruit for thousands of years. The olive is technically a tree, growing eventually to a height of 50 feet, but its slow rate of growth and hardy disposition make the young olive well suited for use as a potted plant. You can keep the olive's size down by pruning, or if your geographic location is acceptable, allow it to grow free outside.
