"A lot of these kids think that food comes out of a plastic bag," says local restaurateur Jerry Pellegrino , who works with the BUGS students. "So this program benefits them in a way where they start to eat more healthy food and they also take home recipes and end up cooking them with their families."
Under Pellegrino's tutelage, BUGS kids create masterpieces like home-made broccoli pizza and garden salad directly from plants they cultivated themselves. Pompeian Olive Oil is not only an integral part of the program, but also a staple in Pellegrino's own kitchen at his highly acclaimed restaurant Waterfront Kitchen.
